What We Fight For

Business was never meant to be about just profits..

Our company was founded out of a desire to build a sustainable engine to invest in clean water projects, near and far, with a percent of drinkware sales being donated to protect the most precious resource on the planet: water.
Over the years as our company has grown, we've expanded our giveback across all product categories and to not only be donated from drinkware sales, but from every single Northern Goods purchase. A portion of every sale is invested into fighting for things that matter in 2 categories: People & Planet.
As of December 2024, we're proud to have donated over $71k to organizations fighting for things that matter.
The primary causes we are currently investing in are:

People: Gritty Giveback

Things that get celebrated get repeated. One thing that would make the world better, is more gritty people. So 3x/year… we give a free stay to someone who exemplifies grit.

What is grit you ask? Our favorite definition is by Angela Duckworth, when she says “Grit is passion and perseverance for long term and meaningful goals.”

Every year, we use our property to celebrate and give back to 3 types of folks whose life exemplifies grit.

  • Gritty Families: A family that has been through it, but keeps on keeping on.
  • Gritty Small Businesses Owners: Someone that meaningfully builds and gives back to their community through their small business.
  • Gritty Teacher: Hot take… All teachers are gritty. They’re inherently underpaid and underappreciated.

We celebrate a few of these folks every year by gifting them a free stay, with the hopes that it can play a small role in filling their buckets back up and to encourage them to keep going.

Planet: Friends of the Boundary Waters

The mission of Friends of the Boundary Waters is to protect the Boundary Waters and to connect people of all backgrounds to the wilderness, so that this and future generations benefit from this special place.

They envision a permanently protected Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness and Quetico ecosystem, where all people can experience the magic of the wilderness, and support its protection.
